TIDES
Description-
The west side of the cove is well protected from the prevailing swell, making for relatively calm conditions. Entry is easy thanks to a sandy beach, even at low tide, so tides aren’t a major concern when getting in the water. The rocky areas are covered with healthy coral, including some smaller specimens that appear to be tagged as part of a scientific study. The depth drops off fairly quickly, which makes this a great spot if you prefer slightly deeper dives. While there are some shallow areas, they’re limited and can become surgy when swell picks up. In January, water temperatures were in the low 70s°F, and a 3mm long-sleeve top was sufficient for staying comfortable.

The east side of the cove is more exposed to the swell and generally experiences rougher conditions. Like the west side, it features deeper, coral-covered rock formations, but with less natural protection from wave action.

Dave’s Fave
Indigo Sea whip– These striking sea whips don’t seem to have a widely recognized common name, so I’ve taken to calling them “Indigo Sea Whips.” Their deep blue-purple color is especially vivid underwater and really stands out against the reef. You’ll spot them scattered throughout the area, but on the west side of the cove there’s one particular rock that’s absolutely covered with them, making it a standout feature of the site.
